Now retired from my Shawano family practice, I admit to, very innocently, starting an affair with the bagpipes when I was forty years old, inexplicably drawn to play them after watching “Braveheart.” I became very involved in this affair— practicing daily, weekly band practice, even joining a bagpipe marching band which played in hometown parades all over the state. Still working, the bagpipes eventually demanded too much from me, and I broke up with them. But when I retired, they began calling me again. Since I have more time, I feel my addiction is under control. I am. Now, deep breath, everyone! Let me get these pipes blowing! |
